The cutting edge research is happening at the Joe Namath Neurological Research Center on the campus of Jupiter Medical Center.
Doctors are working on a clinical study that explores the effectiveness of hyperbaric oxygen therapy as a treatment for traumatic brain injuries.
“When somebody has a brain injury, there’s an area around the badly injured cells that are dormant or asleep, it kind of wakes the cells up and gets them to start working again, says Dr. Barry Miskin, who is leading the study.
He hopes to prove hyperbaric oxygen therapy can improve the symptoms of traumatic brain injuries by increasing blood flow in the brain. Patients must undergo treatment five times a week. Read entire article
